The Ballarat Ironworkers' and Polytechnic Association was at the Ballarat School of Mines. In 1907 J.W. Gregory Professor of Geology at Glasgow Univesity, Late Director of the geological Survey of Victoria and Professor of Geology at Melbourne University. W. Dickson was Secretary for Mines and Donald McLeod was the Minister of Mines. in 1894 Ernest Lidgey was the Assistant Geological Surveyor for the Victorian Department of Mines. A.W. Howitt was Secretary for Mines and Henry Foster was the Minister of Mines. Charcoal hard covered report on the Ballarat East Goldfield. The book combines two reports from the Victorian Department of Mines. The 1894 report is 52 pages and includes images and plans. The 1907 Report is number 4 in the Memoirs of the Geological Survey of Victoria. This file contains four items about the history of the church: 1/Typed letter dated 17/05/1977 from Mrs. C. Fergusson for the Murrumbeena United Church to accompany Item 2. 2/Four original copies plus a photocopy of ‘St. Giles Presbyterian Church Murrumbeena (An Outline of Sixty-five Years of Progress) 1890-1955’. These include lists of clergy, significant congregational members etc. One of the books is noted ‘Doble’ on the cover, as sent by Allan Doble in Item 3. 3/Handwritten letter dated 15/01/1999 from Allen Doble which accompanied one of the books at Item 2. This letter includes information on Dr Seymour, first Minister at St. Giles. Seymour was selected as the site for a military training camp by General Kitchener during his 1909 visit to Australia to advise the government of defence needs. Space for light horse training and areas for artillery training were factors in the choice of location. This is a copy of a photograph of the Ormond College Crew in 1931. The photograph shows Dr Ian Murphy in his youth as the Cox of the rowing team. The Cox was an important role that coached, steered, and ensured the safety of the crew.Dr Murphy was Emerald's first and much-loved GP. His work for the community over 34 years was of immense benefit. He was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1977 for his service to the health of the community.
