Construction of the Waranga Basin initially took place 1905-1915 when it was dug by pick, shovel and horse-drawn scoops. It's embankment was initially 29ft high but over time this was increased to 40 ft. It is an off-river dam that is fed by diversion of water from the Goulbourn River and its aim is to provided irrigation water.Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2003.
