Taped inside the cover is a page from, "The Australian Garden Lover," handwritten "Jan 1 1958." The article is entitled, "Camellias," and describes the work of T. C. Cole and his sons in propagating camellias, anbd his role in the foundation of Burnley Gardens. The other copy includes a copy of the Royal Horticultural Society of Victoria News Letter No. 65, May 1963 with an inscription about the Speaker's (Jack Cato) great grandfather, Copy 1:To my old pal Charle French with the author's best wishes Ed. The 4 photos on the lower half of the cover page were used in "Green Grows Our Garden", by A.P Winzenreid, Hyland House (1991) p. 52. A.P Winzenreid described the photos as: Top left (photo 3): Espaliered fruit tree on fence, established and trained by George Russ and continued as a feature of interest into the 1950s. Alan L. Mitchell graduated in 1935. Some of the pictures were taken while he was a student in 1934 and others in 1956 and 1965. He gathered the collection for a presentation he made about Burnley in 1967. And donated it to the Archives in 1990 for the 1991 Centenary.Box of slides in colour and black and white. Handwritten short history of the Gardens and College and a typed transcript with extra information. Also an extra slide donated in 1997 with accompanying letter and description. Plan shows layout and plantings of the designated area - fruit, vegetables: the conservatory, nursery, exhibition buildings. This plan was owned by E.E. Pescott. Inscription on cover, "Burnley. E.E.P.." "Ed. E. Pescott." Subsequently the area was not developed in this manner. See inscription on copy made for Centenary Exhibition B92.633. Other copies given to College by N. Lothian (graduated 1934). Jim Sanders, a friend of his, gave them to Dr. G. Moore in 1991. A larger copy, inscribed on reverse, '1861', 'Early proposals for Horticultural Gardens for Horticultural Society of Victoria (now Royal). The lithograph was included as an insert in the Farmers Journal and Gardeners Chronicle 21 June, 1862. E.E. Pescott no longer Principal in 1927, did part-time teaching at Burnley Horticultural College. Had a strong interest in native flora. Excursion to Boronia probably to study flora under EEP's guidance. Such excursions were a feature of the Certificate Course. eg.
