The Bendigo Chamber of Commerce and Industry was constituted in 1886 with the vision to be the single voice for the business community across greater Bendigo. ‘Be.Bendigo’ is the trading name of the organisation ‘Bendigo Business Council’ which was formed in 2008 as a merger between two Bendigo business organisations: The Bendigo Chamber of Commerce and Central Victorian Business Network (CVBN). Upon the merger, Bendigo Business Council continued the functions of both the Chamber and CVBN by providing advocacy, networking and events to members and partners.Large minute book/journal - 366 pages of hand-written minutes of meetings of the Bendigo, Eaglehawk and District Chamber of Commerce and Industries. First entry 15 December 1986. Last entry 11 November 1904. Includes newspaper cuttings pasted onto pages and a letter from Barkly Hyett agreeing to act as solicitor for members of the Chamber. "Article compiled by Joan McEwan, great-granddaughter, researched by James Tibbett, great, great grandson." Richard Williams was born in St. Blazey, Cornwall in 1831 to James and Ann Williams. Married to Mary Thomas with whom he had 12 children: Eliza Ann "Lou" Thomas, Sarah Mary "Molly" Williams, Margaret "Peg" Williams (born 1858), Ellen Williams (1859-1860), George Williams (b. 1861), Richard Williams (b.1862), John Williams (1863-1866), Ellen Williams (b.1865), Stephen John Williams (b.1867), Albert James Williams (b. 1868), Michael Thomas Williams (b.1871) and Laura Williams (b.1872). Worked in the Cornish mines until he was 21 and sought work in America. Landed in Melbourne on 20 December 1857 in search of gold. Was given supervision of the work conducted in the 1864 Cinderella Claim belonging to Geroge Lansell, among others. Williams was later named manager of all of Lansell's mines. Williams later opposed Lansell in favour of better working conditions for miners. Williams was then in charge of the Johnson Reef Company until his retirement. He worked on the administrative council at the Bendigo School of Mines, was named Justice of the Peace and was a founding member of the California Hill Methodist Church. Daniel Oswald (1876-1947) married Louisa Trgonning (1878-1955) in 1902. They had the following family:- Lorna (1904-1920); David Sinclair (1905-1988); John Reginald (1909-1973); Daniel Dallas (1910-1966) and Dugdale (1919-1980)Daniel's father John was a codial maker and when Daniel came to Bendigo c. 1898, he initially worked in a cordial factory owned by Mr Simpson before he started his own factory in Peg Leg Rd., Eaglehawk, c.1902. As well as aerated drinks Oswalds also produced tomato sauces. Daniel served on the Eaglehawk council for 26 years including three terms as MAyor. When he retired the business was taken over by his son John Reginald.Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from Monday, December 2, 2002. History: this photo acknowledge the 100th wedding anniversary of Daniel and Louisa (Tregonning) Oswald in Bendigo on December 4. The family will be celebrating with a family reunion this weekend. Mentioned is the visit by the Australian High Commissioner Mr Michael L'Estrange to Trevessa Farm, Cornwall, the birthplace of Sir John Quick. The Cornish Association placed a plaque on Trevessa Farm in 2002. Margaret Bigg, one of the owners of Trevessa Farm can claim to have relatives of the Ellis Family here in Bendigo. On the back is a copy of a Bendigo Advertiser article titled Cornish to honour their patron saint. It was dated March 4, 1992. James Semmens was born in Cornwall. He married Elizabeth Ann Marks. In 1895 he lived at McIntyre Street, Long Gully; 1901 Mt Korong Road and 1905 Crn Bond and Creeth Streets, Long Gully. By the time he left Bendigo (approx 1915) he also had a store in View Street, Bendigo. He served on the Bendigo Council as a representative of the Barkly Ward and as the Mayor 1906/7.Black and white photocopy of a photo of J.
