Textiles. Finely woven linen bed spread, white in colour, and with a ''turn-back'' top to come over or under the pillows. A 10.5 cm deep band of cotton lace trims the edge of this turn-back, and is gathered around the two lower corners, and extends 74 cm. along the side edges of the turn-back. An insert of lace, 2.5 cm wide, also outlines the turn-back, 8 cm from the edge of the linen. The lace trim has a scalloped edge, and a corded effect. Above the narrow band of lace, are beautifully embroidered initials CF. Some small red cotton embroidery on top hem-left hand corner. Embroidered in white cotton satin stitch, the initials are embellished with floral motifs and leaves, and some embroidered eyelets May be the initials of Caterina (Ina) Lamaro who married Giovanni "Jack" Favaloro, or Caterina "Kitty" Lopes who married Salvatoro "Salve" Favaloro.textiles, domestic, woven linen bed spread

Textiles. Very fine linen fabric, white in colour, now a soft cream colour. A spoke-stitched hem joins a curved embroidered and lace trim decorative feature to the set. This panel forms two deep curves, where the initials CF are embroidered, and decorated with small daisy-like flowers and leaves. A 10 cm deep crochet frill is gathered and machine stitched along the curved edge. The initials CF may be the initials of Caterina Lamaro, who married Giovanni Favaloro or those of Caterina Lopes, who married Salvatore Favaloro.textiles, domestic, embroidered lace edged pr of pillowcases

A 19 cm wide panel of fabric has been sewn to the top of the cover and is edged on three sides with finely embroidered broderie anglaise featuring a circular, six petalled flower impression. A panel of the same broderie runs through the centre of the panel and is bordered by a band of three pin-tucks on each side. Textiles. Fine linen fabric, white in colour. The top of the cover is finished with an 8 cm deep band of cotton crochet, featuring a diamond shaped pattern - each diamond 5.5 cm deep. A band of 4 pin-tucks, in a 6.5 cm band of linen, and then another band of 4 pin-tucks and a 5 cm deep band of crochet with a slightly narrower band of diamond shapes, and five rows of pin-tucks complete the handwork.textiles, domestic, bolster pillow case with crochet

Textiles. Very large cover, with an envelope to enclose the pillow, stitched on the underside, with cotton tape ties to enclose the pillow. Beautiful fine cotton broderie fabric (possibly Swiss cotton broderie anglaise) edges the pillow. Corners of the embroidered cotton have been mitred in an unusual way, with the excess fabric still evident, in a 'kite-shaped' manner, in each corner. The embroidered cotton edging features a scalloped edge, with circular, and floral design. A 6 cm deep hem outlines the linen fabric edge, showing the embroidery fabric to advantage.textiles, domestic, very large linen pillow cover

Textiles. Cream linen fabric, with a selvedge edge on each side. Three bands of drawn thread work at each end-a centre band 2.5 cm wide, and stitched to form a decorative pattern, and two bands, 1 cm wide-one on either side of the wider band. These are edged with a spoke stitch, which draws the thread into little ''bar shapes" - 3 to each centimeter. A 4.5 cm wide band of fillet crochet and a 20 cm long fringe, edges each end.textiles, domestic, linen tablecloth or table centre

Textiles. Damask weave fabric, with a design of a rose, with buds, and two stems of leaves, and a lovely soft sheen. Two bands of six zig zag peaks, are made by using pulled thread embroidery, and form a border either side of a row of pulled threadwork diamond shapes, 7 cm x 7 cm. This decorative border is at each end of the runner, which also is completed with a 12 cm deep fringe. A geometric patterned weave forms the background to the pulled thread embroidery, while a single rose and bud weave is tucked into each zig zag, and a scroll design features at each fringed end.textiles, domestic, double damask table runner

Textiles. This is a beautiful remnant of fine cream silk fabric, with a 3.5 cm deep band of cotton lace, woven with a floral design, stitched around the lower edge. A triangular shape above the lower edge, is formed by the insertion of a piece of 2 cm wide cotton lace, also with a floral design, folded and machine stitched as an insertion. The same lace is also inserted in a 9.5 cm high "frame" over an embroidered panel 7.5 cm x 6 cm wide and featuring a delicate circular embroidered and cut-work floral design.
