Pocket Gospel of St John, issued to 'Men of H.M. Forces' on active service in 1914-1916. Contains a message from Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts, VC, KG, KP, GCB, OM, GCSI, GCIE, VD, PC, FRSGS, at that time retired after his distinguished military career yet still active in public life, and less than three months before he died of pneumonia when visiting troops in France. Includes some hymns and music as well as the passages from the Gospel of St John. This faded red "Active Service" 1914-1915, The Pocket Gospel of St. John is a tiny, specialized scripture booklet distributed to British and Commonwealth troops during the First World War. The title and use of the booklet is printed on the front cover in black lettering. On the back of the front cover is a formal message from Field Marshal Lord Roberts encouraging troops to put their trust in God. The title page includes the publishing details. Throughout there are prayers, The Gospel according to St. John, hymns, and coloured illustrations. Inside the back cover is a Decision Form if the owner desired further spiritual guidance from the Scripture Gift Mission in London. It is compact to fit easily into the breast pocket of a soldier's or sailor's uniform tunic. It was designed with rounded edges to prevent the corners from bending or catching while sliding in and out of pockets. Thomas Barton was one of the earliest settlers in Marysville and with 16 children and numerous descendants, the name of Barton is synonymous with Marysville. Thomas John Barton, along with his business partner, Ewen Hugh Cameron, opened a butcher/abattoirs in Marysville in 1864. This was the first shop in Marysville. They supplied meat and other items to the miners along the Woods Point road. Thomas Barton was an active community member and was a key organiser in setting up the school in Marysville in 1870. After Thomas' death in 1911, his sons Fred and Frank took over the family business and renamed it Barton Bros. Many contributions from students are included, encompassing essays, cartoons, comedy pieces, opinions on current affairs, sketches, poems. Photos of school groups and clubs feature, including AFS (American Field Service Exchange Scholarships), cadets, photos of all Form 1 classes, photos of Form Captains and short essays about said classes, many sporting team photos and reports of the progress of the four school houses. The contents of Yakkity Hi ends with the results from 1963, both sporting and academic.

This postcard has a hand-coloured image of the Charman family's Brookdale Guest House in Emerald. The original photograph was black and white, and a copy of that version is in the State Library of Victoria. Brookdale Guest House was one of the first in Emerald, opening in 1901 between Charman and Brookdale Avenues as the railway opened the region for tourists. This postcard was created c. 1907, using the colourful view as advertising to draw more tourists to the region. The guesthouse remained open until 1920. V.S.M. (Victorian Stamp Market) produced a number of series of postcards in the early 1910s.This hand-coloured postcard is a rare colourful view of a major site of 1900s-10s Emerald.This postcard holds a hand-coloured photograph taken from the top of a hill, looking at a homestead with a series of buildings and fields. The background recedes into a forest, with other trees in the foreground and around the centre of the homestead. There is a fence-enclosed field in the centre-right with a dead tree in the centre, and a field in the front-left with a grazing horse. There is a caption printed in the top-left, and the reverse is bisected by a vertical line and prepared for writing on but has no message or stamp.
