Flagons were used by chemists to store liquids used for dispensing medicines to customers. Chemists made / mixed the medicines on their premises.Historical: Used in the Kiewa Valley showing change in the way chemists store their medicines as pharmaceutical companies now produce medicines already mixed. Aesthetic: Display - shape & in good condition.Clear brown glass flagon with straight sides two thirds up from the base. It tapers into the neck, and comes out over a lip, then in again and up to the opening. Screw top below on which 2 twin glass handles are attached. It could have been used by a chemist in his dispensary eg. to store sulphuric acid. This flagon which once contained 750 ml. of tawny port was sold at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village in Warrnambool in the 1970s and perhaps the 1980s as a souvenir of the village and Warrnambool. Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village was opened in 1975 and is a re-created 19th century village and port built in the area of a Warrnambool historic precinct containing several original features from the 19th century. These include two operating lighthouses, lighthouse keepers’ quarters, chart room and a fortifications area with two cannons. As the village is a re-created port and includes a hotel called the Steam Packet Inn, the sale of a souvenir flagon of tawny port was most appropriate. Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village and Museum still operate today. This flagon is retained as an example of the souvenirs sold in Warrnambool some years ago to tourists visiting Warrnambool and Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village. This is a ceramic flagon with a cream body and a brown top and handle. The printing on the flagon is black and the flagon also has black printing of the logo of Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village. Flagons are vessels with a handle and spout used to hold alcoholic beverages, usually wine. In colonial times it would have been set on a table to share with friends or family, these are most likely more modern used in the 19th C.Two large heavy glass wine flagons or jugs, with two handles each at the top for ease of pouring wine. There are no screw top lids. A lined pattern is featured at the base of the squat necks.On the base of each flagon is stamped: 'ISM 426 . The flagon of port was released for the commemorative cricket match Australia versus England to celebrate the "origin of the Ashes" at Rupertswood in Sunbury on the 18 January 1995. A cricket match took place at Rupertswood in 1882, a ball was burnt and the ashes placed in an urn (according to local legend). The flagon is number 56 of a limited edition of 2000.These flagons were produced for the re-enactment of the original social cricket match held at Rupertswood in 1882. The commemorative cricket match was held in January 1995 with Allan Border captain for Australia and David Gower captain for England A cream and green glazed flagon with sloping sides. The lower half of the flagon is cream with a red, green and yellow insignia to commemorate the "origin of the ashes" cricket match and a brief history of the game. The upper half and neck is green. The flagon with port was issued to recognise the end of the Shire of Bulla Works Depot. The port was from the Mt Aitken Estates in Gisborne. Public Works previously administered by the Shire of Bulla went out to private tendering.A cream and brown glazed flagon with sloping sides. The lower half of the flagon is cream with brown printing. The upper half and neck is brown. There is a black unbroken seal over the cork and the port is still in the flagon. This flagon was produced to celebrate Sunbury's 150th anniversary 1836-1986. Similar ones were filled with wine and were for sale or given as presentations at the time of the anniversary. The Bocksbeutel ("goat's bag") bottle has been used since 1726 to store Franconian wines from south-east Germany. The Franken wine-growing region is in the north-west of Germany’s historic state of Bavaria. More than 40% of all Franken wines are bottled in the Bocksbeutel, which is often described as flagon-like in appearance. It is said that the bottle is so shaped to prevent it rolling away from its owner. Only Franken and nearby villages in northern Badenare allowed to use the Bocksbeutal, with selected areas in Portugal, Italyand Greece permitted to employ their own variations. Container - Port Crock, Jeff Cossum, Sunbury Court House 1885

This is a port crock with No. 89 of a special edition of 150 crocks commemorating the restoration of the Old Sunbury Court House. The restoration of the old courthouse which was built in 1885 with an extension to the front and right hand side added in 1965 before the courthouse closed in 1989. The courthouse was restored and reopened in February 1993 as the Visitor Information Centre.The Sunbury Court of Petty Sessions building was built in 1885. Extensions were added in 1965 with the courthouse closing in 1989. After the closure local residents formed a committee to save the courthouse and for it to be used for the benefit of the community this was achieved and with the Shire of Bulla council help was restored and the building reopened as the Sunbury Visitor Information Centre in 1993. The Visitor Information Centre closed and shifted across the road to the Hume Global Learning Centre.A cream and brown stoneware port crock with a small handle that has a paper tag tied to the handle with raffia.
