The fund started as the Tramways Benefit Society (a Friendly Society) in 1888 and was renamed during 1980s first as the Transport Friendly Society and then Transport Health. The Schumacher Mill Furnishing Works were established in 1889 and operated until 1950. This business was a significant employer in Port Melbourne. The staff photo was taken in 1939 and was used in The Age dated 1 December 1939.
