Program for conferring honorary freedom of the City of St Kilda on Hon Brian James Dixon (b 1936) in St Kilda Town Hall on 25 May 1982. The City of St Kilda resolved to confer the honour in recognition of his service to the City, and the State of Victoria, as elected representative of the State Electoral District of St Kilda for 18 years (1964-82), during which time he held a variety of ministerial portfolios. The 2/24th Australian Infantry Battalion Association was uniquely granted the Freedom of the City by the Rural City of Wangaratta in 1990 - to our knowledge the only/first Battalion Association in Australia to be granted this honour. Council acknowledges its appreciation of the contribution made by this Unit to community peace and national democracy and congratulates “Wangaratta’s Own” 2/24 Australian Infantry Battalion Association on its Fiftieth Anniversary since formation.The 2/24th Australian Infantry Battalion Association was uniquely granted the Freedom of the City by the Rural City of Wangaratta in 1990 - to our knowledge the only/first Battalion Association in Australia to be granted this honour. Presented to the 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Association at a Reserve Forces Day parade in Civic Square Albury by the mayor, Councillor Patricia Gould, July 1998. The parade was followed by a march along Dean Street. The Municipality of Kew (1860-1863), the Borough of Kew (1863-1910), the Town of Kew (1910-1921) and the City of Kew (1921-1994) were local government instrumentalities in the State of Victoria. In 1994, the City of Kew was amalgamated, together with the former Cities of Camberwell and Hawthorn, into the new City of Boroondara (1994- ). Like other local government entities of the period, Kew was administered by town clerks. The two notable town clerks in Kew's history were H. H. (Henry Hirst) Harrison (1868-1955) and W. D. (William Dickie) Birrell (1899-1974). Harrison was appointed to the position in 1901 and retired in 1938 after 37 years. Birrell, appointed Acting Town Clerk in 1921, became Town Clerk in 1938, following Harrison's retirement. He continued in this role until his retirement in 1966.This card is part of an historically significant civic collection, containing hundreds of separate invitations, documents, greeting cards, programmes and tickets issued and/or collected by successive town clerks. Items in the collection illuminate the political, social and cultural history of the district. 16mm Kodak Film (Eastman Plus-X Reversal Safety Film Type 7276) of the presentation of Freedom of the City of Ringwood to the Royal Australian Engineers in March 1965 (later renamed to 22nd Engineer Regiment, RAE). The film title indicates made by ABC but no other information. There is no sound on the film. It was digitised in 2023 by Aidem Media and the resulting .mp4 is attached to this record. Two newspaper items giving further information are also attached - one has a number of photos which match scenes in the film, verifying the occasion

Handwritten on the back of 11168-4 "The Royal Australian Engineers Corps Band from Kapooka (NSW) moved into position near four Mounted Troopers during a march through Ringwood on March 27. The troopers supported Police Inspector A. Angus, who acted as Town Marshall to challenge 200 Members of the Royal Australian Engineers, 3rd Division. The Regiment gained entry to the City by the production of a Freedom of the City Scroll presented by the Mayor of Ringwood (Cr. B.J. Hubbard)."
