1 - Colour slide of the former Geelong A Power Station on the corner of Yarra St and Corio Tce (now Brougham St). First portion on the corner built by the Electric Lighting and Traction Co of Australia. The Geelong tram depot, operated by the Melbourne Electric Supply Co was incorporated within the structure during 1912. Operated by the State Electricity Commission from 1930 until the 1960's. Photo taken prior to the demolition of the chimney following its sale in June 1970. When Hamilton Hume and William Hovell arrived at the bay in 1824 they met with the local Wautharong people who referred to the bay as "Jillong" and the surround land "Corayo", but by the time the area was surveyed in the late 1830s the Aboriginal names had been swapped. Although quite short for a key position, he was able to produce spectacular results frequently. He possessed remarkable ground play, elusiveness and goal sense. Amazingly, he was able to snap goals with either foot from virtually anywhere within range. Many of his goals came from kicks over his head or shoulder as he ran away from the scoring area to dodge opponents. He was fast, clever and a good mark. His League career commenced spectacularly; in his first two matches he scored a total of 19 goals. He later became the first player in history to score 10 goals or more in two successive matches (Round 15 and 16, 1932). In that year he became the first Geelong player to score 100 goals in a season. During 1935 he played successfully in the centre. The Geelong Glider Club was formed in June 1929 at a meeting held at the Belmont Common hangar of Percy Pratt. The club built a Zogling (Primary Glider) based on plans obtained from Germany and flew it off nearby hills at Lovely Banks and other places in the Geelong region. The checked rudder design (without logo and markings) is evident in a picture of a Geelong Glider Club Zogling flying at Tower Hill near Warrambool, Victoria, at Easter 1931 and this lends support to the conclusion that the rudder was part of the Club’s first glider. The logo and markings appear to be a more recent elaboration to the design. Exhibit is a historical link to the earliest gliding activities of the Geelong Glider Club.Fabric covered wooden framed primary glider rudder with metal levers decorated with silver and dark red checkered design. The item has a cat logo on one side and markings on the other of places where the Geelong Gliding Club flew in its early years.On port side – Cat logo. The jumper was donated to the National Wool Museum in early 2019 from the Geelong Football Club. The jumper is the fourth in the 'country game' range. The oringal 2016 jumper was designed to commemorate a 'country game' against the Essendon Football Club prior to the start of the 2016 AFL Season. The four themes depicted in that jumper included: livestock, wool, wine and wheat. the 2016 jumper can be viewed as entry 7613.White sleeveless Geelong football jumper.
