Set of three documents concerning the MMTB Gratuity or Pension payout scheme. .1 Top half of an A4 photocopied sheet, with a tear off slip, titled "To all employees who elected in 1955 to remain under the provisions of the "old" gratuity scheme", giving employees the option to transfer to the new scheme (see item .3), asking to return the slip by 5/9/1981. .2 - Letter, stencil cut duplicated on quarto paper on MMTB letterhead, dated 9/5/1955, advising Ron Wearne of 31 Soudan Street Malvern that he has elected to remain in the present or "old" Retiring and Death Gratuity Scheme. Typed on Loadable Parchment watermarked paper. Signed in ink by H. A. Warner Secretary. .3 - Printed document on semi gloss paper titled "Notice to Employees Retiring and Death Gratuities" setting out the comparison in payments between the old and the new schemes that was to come into effect on 1/6/1955. Book - 20 pages printed on gloss paper + manilla coloured card cover, titled "Vacancies for Tram Conductors in Melbourne Australia / Conditions and Advantages of Employment 1964 - Single Men Only". Part of the recruitment drive for the MMTB during a period of crew shortages. Gave the conditions, accommodation for up to a year, standards, working conditions, rates of pay, leave, retiring and death gratuities, sport, benefits, becoming a driver, employment, shifts, types of shifts, promotion, wages and conditions. Has a number of photographs of Melbourne, St Kilda Road, Collins St and a photo of a Doncaster bus in a very rural area of Melbourne. Letter, Set of two letters, carbon copy, typed by Mr Lewis Russell to Mr. R. A. Spencer while on tour with Mr Bell in 1938. See Reg Item 934 for the report. The two letters give the nitty gritty of the going-on's at the time in the MMTB. .1 - three quarto sheets, stapled in the top left hand corner, dated Monday 2 May, outlining activities at home. The main point is a O'Meara - Eakins appeal which involved extensive legal advice about titles, positions etc. Mr O'Meara title noted as chief draftsman. Notes names of various legal figures such as Mr. Herring KC. Also notes Cr. Gray, Cr. Gorman, Mr. Bell (Jnr?), Mr Cass. Appears that Mr. McGlashan "has been dipping his beak into the flowing bowl" and had been dismissed. Appears he was collecting the fees from the Wattle Park Golf course. Letter continuation of 4 May - appeals still going on, the death of Mr Monsbourgh and dismissal of Mr. Ellis and a 3rd sheet dated 9th May. Reports on drawing up a lease for a Mr. Better, snow and some personal family matters? .2 - letter dated 3/8/1938 Has notes re Mr O'Connor and the benefit society, retiring gratuity, costs, Mr Guice, Mr Richardson. Notes that the book must be returned if the employee leaves the MMTB.
