Black and white illustration from the South Pacific Electric Railway Co-op (Sydney Tramway Museum) - Aug. 1974 calendar of Ballarat trams 26 and 28 at the intersection of Grenville St. and Sturt St. Tram 28 proceeding to the Gardens via Drummond St., while 26 waits for 28 to clear and proceed to what appears on the destination to be Mt. Pleasant. Photo undated, but prior to the fitting of marker lights on the drivers canopy window sills - during the 1950's. Photo caption mentions that this was the City terminus of the system - incorrect during the SEC operational days. Photo by B. Tooker. B&W print and scanned images of a coloured postcard lent to the BTM by Mr. Norm DePomeroy, Dec. 1997. Image is of a horse tram leave the Grenville St. terminus, to travel west bound along the north side of Sturt St. Has many pedestrians in photo and some horse drawn vehicles. Shows the position of the horse tram track in Sturt St., north side, was not up against the south side kerb. Postcard has a Christmas message on the base of it. Also shows telegraph poles along the north side of Sturt St. 1 copy held at 8/98. Postcard dated 22 Dec. 1904 See Reg Item 2437.1, 2437.2 for original postcards held within the collection. See 836i3. Yields information about Ballarat and Sturt St c1907 following the information of trams.Printed colour postcard of Ballarat electric tram leaving the Grenville St. terminus, at the bottom end of Sturt St terminus with an early motor bus or taxi in front of the tram crossing to the south side of Sturt St. Has buildings on both sides of Sturt St. in photograph, with some other horse drawn vehicles and many pedestrians. Note, none of the buildings have names shown on them - have been printed out. Photo taken soon after opening, no roof mounted destination boxes. On rear are places for correspondences stamp, address and manufacturers' name in a fancy motif "WTP". Titled "Sturt Street, Ballarat" in the top left-hand corner". 2924.1 - Same postcard from the Wal Jack Album, see images i3 and i4 for front and rear. Printed colour postcard of the east end of Sturt St. from top of the Nichol and Allen Building in Grenville St looking west. Titled "Sturt St Ballarat" in the top left-hand corner. Has three ESCo trams in the image, at the east end of Sturt St. In the bottom left-hand corner is the number "300477" and the initials "JV" within a circle. A 2d Australian stamp, cancelled with the postmark "Burnie Tas 21Ap 34" is in the top centre of the postcard. Image taken early in the days of the Ballarat electric trams, with no windows and no rooftop destinations. Appears to be the same tram possibly three times - looking at the number on the tram in detail. On the rear of the postcard is the address to a "Mme Helen Ferrando, Sori, Genova Italy" in black handwritten ink, while in the left-hand half of the postcard, typed in light purple ink is "Arthur H. Rubock, 23 Wilmot St., Burnie, Tasmania USCE 23897" (could be US Corps of Engineers) and the postmark of "Sori Genova. / 28.5.34". The printer of the card is "The Valentine & Sons Publishing Co. Ltd, Melbourne and Sydney" 2433.1 - Digital image of the same postcard from the Wal Jack album of Ballarat Photos - 5100-7-C, scanned as images .3 and .4 and high-resolution scans. Two Newspaper clippings or Illustrations contained within Reg. Item 2488, page 81 showing two ESCo trams (one Californian combination and the other a Sebastopol tram) in Sturt St near Grenville St, with the original tramway shelter in the background and the other the mass photo of horse trams (See Reg. Item 2491) and hand written notes about the two photographs by H.P James. James notes the circumstances of the 2nd photo - taken to show the Directors of ESCo in Liverpool Ballarat and their tramway assets. The Second photo James says was taken c1923 (just) - prior to the removal of the shelter. Also provides notes on the colours of the tram route indicators and times of services. Has a very poignant message on the rear about the impact of the Great War.Printed coloured postcard of the Sturt St looking west from Grenville St. Has the two ESCO trams in the photograph, two horse drawn carts, cycles and pedestrians. In the middle of the photograph is the ESCo tramway waiting shelter, constructed in 1907. Has the Suttons building and D'Albora? buildings lettered in the photograph. The red printing layer is off register. The rear of the postcard has a central vertical line, with the word "Post Card" at the top, "Printed in Germany" on the left hand side and the number "B379 10" in the bottom right hand corner. Titled "Sturt Street, Ballarat looking West." along top edge of the photo. On the rear of the photograph has the words in pencil "Australia" and the message "Ballarat is a city in Victoria.
