The ship HMAS Cerberus was Built at Jarrow, Newcastle upon Tyne, England, in 1870, specifically for the colony of Victoria (Australia) and originally named HMVS Cerberus. It had a displacement of 3480 tons and could travel at the speed of 10 knots. The ship carried 4x 10 inch M.L.R. guns. The ship was renamed HMAS Cerberus in 1911 when the navy became the Royal Australian Navy. The photograph was mounted by members of HMAS Cerberus at Crib Point, Western Port Bay, Victoria in 1986. It was presented to Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village by the HMAS Cerberus Museum in 1986 to commemorate the ship's 75 years of service for the Royal Australian Navy. The photograph is significant for its connection with the colony of Victoria before Federation. It is also significant for its connection with the Royal Australian Navy and its service and training of Australian defence forces. Photograph behind glass, in timber frame. No compass in binnacle- iron compensators fitted- manufactured 1869- G.SRemoved from H.M.V.S Cerberus in 1911 and transferred to Williamstown Depot. Later being transferred to H.M.A.S CerberusSir William Thomson's patent 1879 no: 5923 Whyte Thomson & Co makers 144 Broomielaw Glassgow & transferred to H.M.A.S Cerberus.

Standard hat issued by the Royal Australian Navy to members of the Women's Royal Australian Navy Service during World War ll. This is a black, felt hat with a faded black tally band with "H.M.A.S. CERBERUS" embroidered in gold lettering. The interior of the hat has a grey sweatband. embroidered with the name : "H.M.A.S. Cerberus" and a sewn, labelled tag on the inside of the hat reading "N18, 1944, Size 21-1/2, MADE IN AUSTRALIA".

Discovered Aboard a training vessel Gayunda when she retired from retired from services at H.M.A.S Cerberus in 1983. Gayundahad been previously based in brisbane at H.M.A.S Moreton. Of State Queensland blak Shield with crest colours, gold, blue and red.Conjunctis Virbus.

Of Leut W.H Panter, First Captain of H.M.V.S Cerberus and brought the ship from England to Port Phillip Bay in 1871. The sword was donated to the Ran College in the year 1934 by Miss Orr's Grandaughter. Of H.M.C.S Protector- non reflecting glass wooden fram-brass plates (2)Presented to H.M.A.S cerberus museum by the Director Gerneral of naval Traing and Education, Commodore Ian Nicholson A.D.C., RAN and the commanding officer of the Adelaide port Division of the RANR Commander Tony Bennett RD RANR. September 1981. H.M.C.S Protector. 1884- Commissioned into the South Australia Colonial Naval forces. 1900- Briefly commissioned into the royal Navy for service in the boxer reballion. in China. 1911- Commissioned into the royal Australian Navy. 1914- 18 served in New Guinea waters and Australian waters abd surveyed the wreck of the EMDEN in 1915. 1921- Renamed H.M.A.S Cerberus. 1924 Reverted to the name Protector and sold out of service 1941- Requisitioned for war service with the U.S army Small Ships command. 1944- Damaged near gladstone and left on a reef off heron II and, where she now rests.
