Cochrane was commissioned into the Life Guards in 1870 and promoted to lieutenant the following year and captain in 1878. He served in the Nile Expedition, the Desert March and the Relief of Khartoum. Appointed Commanding Officer of 2nd Life Guards in 1895. Served in the Second Boer War and appointed Commander of the Mounted Brigade,part of the South Natal Field Force. Participated in the Relief of Ladysmith in 1900. Appointed General Officer Commanding Militia of Canada and was there for two years. Appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath. Appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1901 and in 1907 knighted as a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. An article in the Box Hill 'Reporter' (11 October 1907, p.2) refers to the presentation of the artefact to the Kew Town Hall. The report records: 'Presentation to Kew's Ex-Mayor In the mayor's room at Kew on Tuesday evening, Ex-Mayor Cr Wishart was made the recipient of a handsomely-illuminated and exquisitely-framed testimonial as a mark of appreciation by his colleagues of the highly satisfactory manner in which he had discharged the duties appertaining to the mayoral office. .... A framed group of the metropolitan mayors was subsequently presented by Cr Wishart as an addition to the pictures hung in the mayor's room.'The newspaper report in the Box Hill Reporter positively identifies the artefact and how it was placed in the Mayor's Room in the Walpole Street Town Hall. The collage is historically significant as it may include the only photograph of a mayor of a city at this period of time.A large framed photographic collage of Henry Weedon surrounded by the Mayors of Greater Melbourne (holding office for the year 1906-07). The photograph was assembled in recognition of the ‘slight favours to them’ showed by the Lord Mayor. The photograph is dated August 1907. Peter White Bray(28/2/1871-24/12/1958) was the son of John Bray and Catherine Hamilton Innes. John and Catherine had a total of 12 children. Another child was Edith May Bray (1883-27/5/1957) who married Harry Gee in 1904. Their son Harry Herbert was born in 1906 so this photo would date c. 1907-8 when Harry Herbert was pictured with his Uncle Peter at the age of about 18 months. Peter never married and is buried with his sister Amy at Eaglehawk. This apparatus was devised by Hamilton Irving an English general surgeon in 1907. Supra pubic prostatectomy surgery was being performed more frequently due to improvements in procedures. There were issues post-operatively as dressings were saturated with urine and causing excoriation. The receiver was said to be easy to apply, comfortable to wear and effective in keeping the patient dry and able to move freely in bed.
