The "queens" held concerts and appealed for funds. The winner in 1918 was Adelaide Wanke. Adelaide was born in Harkaway on 24 December 1900. Her parents were Immanuel Gottlob Wanke and Bertha Nathalie nee Aurisch. Adelaide married William Frederich Blobel in 1926 and they had an orchard in Templestowe. Sh e died on 14 July 1995 Photograph of children from Harkaway Primary School dressed up for the Queen of Peace competion in 1918.
