Charles Ansell and Helen Malvina Smith’s children: 1. Kenneth Ansell – b 1892 d 3 May 1977 at Lancefield SERN 819 Enlisted AIF on 17/8/1914 giving his occupation as book seller Assigned to 8th Battalion, G company Enlisted 17 August 1914 Embarked A24 Benalla on 19 October 1914 Returned to Australia on 23 October 1918 Obituary describes him as eldest child of the late Charles Ansell & Helen M Smith of Surrey Hills and Lancefield. 2. He was baptised 23 April 1861 in Tintinhull, Somerset - son of William Maxwell & Louisa Claudina Smith (nee Ansell). His father was curate of the church at the time. Helen Malvira (or Malvena) MacKenzie, known as Nellie, was the second daughter of the John Mackenzie J.P., of Westernport, and Wilcannia, N.S.W., and great granddaughter of the late Admiral Pasco, R.N. They lived at 'Devon', 3 Vincent Street from at least 1910 but perhaps earlier until 1915. Charles Ansell and Helen Malvina Smith’s children: 1. Sir Harold Gengoult ...In 1934, Victoria and Melbourne celebrated their centenaries. Realising how impossible it would be for the majority of Warrnambool residents to participate in the Victorian celebrations, the organising committee of the Warrnambool Centenary celebrations devised a week long comprehensive programme of activities including exhibitions, a pageant re-enactment at the breakwater and a mass children's display at the showgrounds. Sir Harold Gengoult Smith officially opened the Warrnambool Centenary Exhibition of Arts, Crafts, Antiques and Historical Relics. This booklet was designed and written in 1934 for the Warrnambool Centenary festivities by Frank H. Ford, Lava Street, Warrnambool. The souvenir booklet contains a brief history of Warrnambool, a map and description of Warrnambool and its facilities in 1934.The last three pages include a business directory which would be useful for research.A twenty page booklet printed on shiny paper. The front cover has a black and white photo of nine swimmers in the water (five male & four female) some with surfboards. There is a 4mm green line printed 12mm from the upper edge and a 3mm green line printed 6mm from the lower edge of the cover. There is green printing over the photograph on the front cover. On the rear cover there are two small black and white photographs of an aerial view of the city of Warrnambool and the Hopkins Falls in flood. The green line extend across the rear cover and are intersected by a perpendicular 4mm green line running from the upper to the lower edge 18mm to the left of the spine. Robert was part of a group of 500 Servicemen captured as P.O.Ws.at Padang Sumatra. The POWs were accommodated in 6 long barracks buildings that ran side by side. They were behind an 8 foot high wall containing a parade ground, sports ground, Japanese Officers and guards quarters. The POWs were put to work on the infamous Sumatra Railway. Written on the back of the photo is ? George and Harold Harless. This appears to be a misidentification as the young lads look very much like in other photos of Robbie and Colin Key. Cabinet Photo Latimer Photographers, Fitzroy opposite Foy's Foy and Gibson were located at Smith Street Fitzroy William B. Latimer operated from 157 Smith Street, Fitzroy from 1896-to c.1909 and from 222 Gertude Street Fitzroy from c.1909 to 1935. As the photos states the loactuion is opposite Fopy's that dates the photo to 1896-c.1909. Given the boy's apparent ages the photos is most likely dated 1909.Inscribed on back in pencil ?
