Captain Neville Howse's name and the date of his action are struck on either side of the coin next to the image of the Victoria Cross. The names of all Victoria Cross recipients to date of issue of the coin are listed on the presentation pack.

The Watters family moved from Albert Park to Garden City Port Melbourne circa 1934 buying a Bank House at 128 Williamstown Road (later renumbered to 400). The family consisted of Bob Watters senior and his wife Ellen (nee Oakley), children Patsy (b 1920), Bob Junior (b 1922) and Norma (b1924). The Pickersgill family were the original settlers on Churchill Island, and amongst the earliest at Griffiths Point, now San Remo. Samuel Jabez Pickersgill, is the seventh of nine children of Samuel and Winifred Pickersgill of Churchill Island fame. Samuel Jabez lived from 1866 – 1956, and in his old age wrote down his memoirs of his early years in the 1870s and 1880s. Just 90 Australians have been awarded it since they served with the British forces in South Africa in the late nineteenth century.
