The Uebergang family came from Silesia to Australia in 1848 and were early settlers in the Allansford area. The sons and other descendants also purchased farms in the area. The Percy Uebergang family lived at Tooram Park, Allansford from 1912 until 1992. Percy and Myrtle Uebergang's children were twins, Ray and Joyce born in 1926 who lived at Tooram Park until their deaths, Ray in 1986 and Joyce in 1992 after which the property was sold. Neither Ray nor Joyce married and following the death of her brother Joyce set up the Ray and Joyce Uebergang Foundation which supports the local community. The collection of items from their property was put into store for a number of years before being given into the care of the Cheese World Museum. Charles Ernest BARRIE and Jessie May LANG daughters Jessie Maude and Dorothy Joyce Barrie were born on the 6th November 1920, in Bacchus Marsh . Jessie Maud BARRIE was born on 06 November 1920 in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, she married Colin Leslie RICHARDSON on12 September 1942 in Melton, Victoria, Australia. Jessie and Colin had four children, Pamela, Barre, Helen and Graeme. She died on 26 February 1994. Joyce Snow was born in Avenel and came to Beechworth at the age of twenty-three. She grew up at Bundarta, a place just out of Shepparton. Her father was a soldier who was part of the 37th Battallion while her mother's family were some of the pioneers of Beechworth--the Duracks. She finished school at about thirteen years old, did a correspondence course, and when she was old enough, she went training for nursing. Joyce was a trained nurse at the old Mooroopna Base, Hospital. She working at a Hospital in Shepparton when Manpower sent her to Beechworth. She arrived at Beechworth in 1943 at a train in Wangaratta. She had been a nurse in Beechworth for more than seven years. She got married in Beechworth and had three children, two girls and one boy. By the time of her third child, she studied a one year supplementary course on Psychy at May Day. Joyce had nursed prisoners of the First World War. She shared about the differences of medical practice back then in comparison to now. This oral history recording was part of a project conducted by Jennifer Williams in the year 2000 to capture the everyday life and struggles in Beechworth during the twentieth century. This project involved recording seventy oral histories on cassette tapes of local Beechworth residents which were then published in a book titled: Listen to what they say: voices of twentieth century Beechworth. These cassette tapes were digitised in July 2021 with funds made available by the Friends of the Burke.Joyce Snow's account of her life in the early 20th century is historically and socially significant to the cultural heritage of the region. She gave information about the settlements and life of the prisoners of First World War, the early forms of entertainment, education system and societal roles. She also mentioned changes in employment and migrant communities. This oral history account is socially and historically significant as these accounts provide a unique insight into the day-to-day life of the town's residents during the 20th century, many of which will have now been lost if they had not been preserved.This is a digital copy of a recording that was originally captured on a cassette tape. His reminiscences reveal events of the venture, from the departure from Melbourne with the completion of a roomy homestead, from the threat of bankruptcy, to substantial success within a decade. In writing them, he was not dependent upon his memories; the many letters he had written to his parents in London had eventually been returned to him, and those written between 1851 and his mother's death in 1858 form a continuation of his own narrative. They describe in vivid detail the upheavals that followed the discovery of gold, the transformation of both town and country, the dissolution of the Joyce brothers' partnership, and Alfred's activities as pastoralist, farmer and miller at Norwood on die Bet Bet Creek. In this third edition, for which a much wider range of illustrations is available, an epilogue continues the story of George Joyce at Plaistow and Alfred Joyce at Norwood until both properties had passed into other hands. Domestic tragedy overwhelmed the one, while droughts and mortgages eventually ruined the other. It is a record which, in the words of the American Historical Review, 'would serve as script for a first-class documentary film and deserves high rank, in the literature of pastoral pioneering'. Kitty (Catherine) Sandow and Joyce Rowe grew up in Linton and attended Linton State School. Kitty Sandow (1916-1984) married Reg Jennings in 1946. Joyce Rowe (1912-1997) married Mick (Martin) Chung in 1931. Kitty and Reg took over the management of Kitty's parent's grocery and confectionery shop, which then became known as "Jennings' Milk Bar". Date is approximate - early 1930s. Mr Oswald Joyce and Mr Bert Lamble used to ride their bicycles to the country to find work when they became unemployed. This included reworking old gold mines. Here they are seen leaving for Enoch's Point where they fossicked for gold during the Depression. A check of the electoral rolls points to this being the home of Frederick Harry Percival Lamble, labourer, born in Collingwood. He and his family continued to live at 87 Essex Road until his death in 1968 and his occupation is consistently given as labourer.
