Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry. Students are taught active research and enquiry; rather than textbook learning and a one-size fits all approach. VIOSH accepts people into the Graduate Diploma of Occupational Hazard Management who have no undergraduate degree - on the basis of extensive work experience and knowledge. black framed photograph with title and names of students underneath.Framers details verso lls: "Artafact"viosh, viosh australia, occupatonal health and safety, victorian institute of occupational safety and health, occupational hazard management, brett allen, brett anderson-steele, gerard ayers, michael bailey, jillian ball, paul bassett, robert bird, manujendra bishwa, denise campbell-burns, tony caruso, greg chrisfield, jennifer clarke, mateo daurewa, jeffrey davis, iain day, steven dine, lesley eccles, roland fielding, ken fuhrmeister, ronald groenland, janet halls, kathy haseloff, john holding, brett hyne, karen kalamistrakis, thomas lamont, david lawry, david lloyd, denise mcknight, john mcgill, kay malinowski, ian martin, andrew muriti, sandra nicholson, valerie odewahn, jamila peric, sally scott, alan sheather, peter sheehan, robert simms, surrendra singh, allison smith, kenneth stewart-grey, danielle sudano, deborah sutton, robyn walton, troy wells, kerry wright, zari zarifopoulos, university of ballarat -

Book, Keith White, Criado:
This book brings to life for many Australians, the close connection between Australia and East Timor. In 1941-42, Archie Campbell was a lieutenant in the 'Sparrow Force' the 300 men of the 2/2nd Independent Company in a 14-month campaign of ambushes and hit-and-run tactics which effectively pinned down more than 15,000 Japanese troops in East Timor. This book recounts the bloodless Australian landing in Portuguese East Timor, military actions against the Japanese, and eventual evacuation to Darwin. Central to Campbell's experience is the ambush and execution of a section from his platoon, shortly after the Japanese landing in Dili. In 1973, Archie returned to East Timor to meet Barana, the East Timorese man who, as a 12-year-old boy, helped and protected him during the campaign. Each Timorese boy who helped a commando and guarded him while he slept, was called that commando's Criado. Ken White accompanied Archie in the 1973 journey to East Timor to find Barana. He has used excerpts from Archie's own diary to tell the heart-warming story of their first meeting after 30 years. Book, Alan Judge Holt (deceased), Pre-Suburban Surrey Hills 1839-1883, 1989
Author: Alan Judge Holt amassed a significant collection of historical material related to the Surrey Hills area. Born in Moonee Ponds in 1912 to Edmund Holt and Ellen Ruby Sutton, he married Edna Jean Pallot in 1937. They lived at 62 Broughton Road, Surrey hills, had 3 sons and were strongly associated with the Surrey Hills Methodist Church. Alan was Secretary of the Victorian Lands Department and in his spare time recorded the occupancy of every property in Surrey Hills and Mont Albert at the beginning of each decade from 1890 to 1980. His collection of files and individual cards covers people, places, churches, clubs, businesses and other organisations in the area. Alan used this information to give talks and tours of the area and gifted his material to the local history collection through Jocelyn Hall.Unpublished manuscript / notes written by Alan Holt about settlers in and around Surrey Hills bound in-house. Photograph, Fay Bridge, Book launch of Laughing Waters Road by Jane Woollard at Montsalvat, Eltham, 30 January 2016
Laughing Waters Road , the book was launched at Montsalvat in Eltham. On Saturday, January 30, 2016, Nillumbik Council launched this book. The weather was cool; just as well, considering over 500 people attended this very pleasant event where food and drink were plentiful. The Australian Government and Nillumbik Shire Council funded the book and it was designed by Wayne Rankin of North Warrandyte. The dedication page is to our very own Ranger Campbell Beardsell OAM of Parks Vic who taught Jane to be “passionate about the environment of this special place” (p260). FOWSP members Val Polley, Linda Rogan and Ken Crook contributed to the content and photos. David Wandin, Wurundjeri Elder, gave a Welcome to Country and officially launched the book after the Mayor of Nillumbik, Cr Hattam, made introductions. Jane Woollard followed with a brief outline of how she came to write the book (her very first) and read out loud the last paragraph which focuses on reconciliation and shared culture. Jane declared in her preface that the book “has been formed by attending to the connection between rivulets of memories, creeks of hearsay, rivers of tales, the meanders of local legend and the deep, still pools of the archive.” Very poetic! - Lynda Gilbert Newsletter; Friends of Warrandyte State Park March 2016, Volume 34 Number 2 Laughing Waters Road , the book was launched at Montsalvat in Eltham ON SATURDAY 30 JANUARY Nillumbik Council launched this book. Photograph, Ken Hall, Victorian home at 215 Union Road, Surrey Hills, Original: 1920; copy by Ken Hall: 1980s
Built in 1888, which was 5 years before water reticulation came to Surrey Hills. It originally relied on rainwater and a well (still in existence in 2009) was located near the back door. From 1921 this was the home of Mr Natale and Mrs Ethel May Cerini and their family. It remained in the family until it was sold in May 2015. The Cerinis had 2 daughters - Jocelyn Francesca and Lynette Lorraine . The house passed to Jocelyn after her parents' deaths. Mr Cerini named the house after a property in NSW called 'Goonoogoonoo' where he had worked. It had been named 'Montiere' at a previous time. Natale was an accountant and very active in community affairs, especially after his retirement. The house was originally on a double block. [Additional information: Ken Hall - 2/12/2009] The first owner was A Embling, followed by Mrs L A Campbell. [Ref: Alan Holt property register] A Embling was most likely Austin Henry Chinnock Embling (1867, Ballarat East - 2 OCT 1900), eldest son of Dr Dr William and Elizabeth Embling (née Austin). His wife was Sybil Mary Mildred (MS: Edlin), born in Adelaide, whom Austin Embling married in 1898. Black and white photo of a Victorian style house with 3 brick chimneys, a slated roof and a verandah on 2 sides. It has iron lacework and the roof is striped corrugated iron. It sits behind a picket fence. The spire of Surrey College can be seen behind the trees at the rear of the house. In the street is an electric light pole and an immature tree within a picket protection guard.Paper type-written tags mounted at the bottom of the photo - LHS: " Built 1888"; RHS: "215 Union Road in 1920 / Surrey College can be / seen behind the trees."houses, victorian style, goonoogoonoo, surrey college, street trees, natale cerini, kenneth tudor hall, ken hall, jocelyn cerini, jocelyn hall, ethel may swan, ethel swan, ethel cerini, jocelyn francesca cerini, natale benjamin cerini, natale benjamin john andrea cerini, ethel may cerini, lynette lorraine cerini, lynette lorraine lazarus, austin embling, austin henry chinnock embling, sybil mary embling, sybil mary edlin, sybil mary mildred, montiere, goonoo goonoo, lynette cerini
