Book, Friends of Kirth Kiln, Fireside Stories, The Parkers as Friends of Kurth Kiln, February 2010
Kith Kiln was the site of a short lived charcoal kiln designed to provide an alternative to petrol during World War 11 when there was a fuel shortage. Local history has been told by Genseric (Bill) Parker and the reflections collected by Friends of Kirth Kiln (under the auspices of Parks Victoria). The booklet is significant because it tells the story of the development of the Kirth Kiln Park in Gembrook, from the Friends perspective. The park is not only historical but is also of great environmental significance and it forms part of community life in the district. Green soft cover booklet of 128 pages. The front cover has 2 photos; the top one of the caretakers compound with Forest Commission huts and the bottom photo is of the Lake, taken from the dam on Tomahawk Creek. The back cover has a diagram of the Kiln logo.Fireside Stories with Genseric (Bill) Parker and Lorna Parker. Work on paper - Pencil sketch, Artist unknown, initials D.M, Sketch of pottery kilns at East Ringwood, corner of Velma Grove and Mount Dandenong Road (Oxford Road). Kilns shut down in 1926, c.1926
Sketch of the four pottery kilns at East Ringwood, corner of Velma Grove and Mount Dandenong Road (Oxford Road). The kilns shut down in 1926. Judging by the handwriting, the artist and author appears to be John Rodaughan, East Ringwood historian, whose other works include history on Burnt Bridge Hotel and other parts of East Ringwood. The back of the sketch includes a rough hand-drawn map, that appears to be of the insulator works area, between Mt Dandenong Road and Evon Avenue. The timeline includes generic milestones in blue ink and those associated with Ringwood in red writing.Kilns; D.M. -

Photograph, Doug Orford, Pottery kiln, visit to Clifton Pugh's home, Dunmoochin, 26 May 1991, 26/05/1991
[from EDHS Newsletter No. 78, May 1991:] DUNMOOCHIN TRIP "Dunmoochin" was the home of the famous artist Clifton Pugh who died last year. The house also gives an informal name to the surrounding area at Cottles Bridge where artists, conservationists and like minded people have made their homes. This is an area of unconventional houses blending in with the surrounding bushland. The Pugh house is a rambling complex including studios and a large pottery kiln. It contains many of Clifton Pugh's works. For this excursion we have arranged a guided visit of the Pugh house and hope to be able to visit another house in the area. We will also be able to wander through bushland which Clifton had purchased for conservation purposes. This will be an afternoon excursion on Sunday 26th May starting with lunch (bring your own) at 12:30 pm at the Panton Hill Memorial Park. Transport will be by private car but transport can be arranged for those not wishing to drive. There is no cost but we need to be advised of members attending. Advise Russell Yeoman at the May Meeting or by 10th May if you intend to go. We will not be able to add extra people after that date.Colour photographactivities, clifton pugh, dunmoochin -

digital photographs, Lisa Gervasoni, Glenthompson Brickworks, c2010-2017
The Thompson brothers, George and Joseph, formerly of Ballarat and the new owners of Yallum Park, established the Glenthompson Brickworks in 1900. The entire process of creating a solid, pressed Glenthompson Brick happens on site, where red and cream clay is excavated. Brick presses dating back to 1940 are still in operation today, the kilns are stacked by hand to ensure specific needs are met and colour varieties are achieved. Refined oil is used to fire down draught kilns, which allows temperatures to be adjusted to ensure unique colour ranges are achieved.Colour photographs of kilns at Glenthompson Brickworks. building, heritage, glenthompson, industry, industrial heritage, brickworks, oven, glenthompson brickworks, george thompson, joseph thompson -

Water colour Sketch, 1960's
The first kiln built on Phillip Island in the 1870's for Mr John West. It was situated in Thompson Avenue next to Wests General Store. When the kiln was demolished, the bricks were used to build the old Post Office on the corner of the Esplanade. Mr John West gave a Banquet at the Isle of Wight Hotel to celebrate the opening of his kiln.Water Colour Sketch. This picture was reconstructed by Jean Archibald from pencil sketches by S Serpell in 1905, and an artist who travelled to Phillip Island with the "Vagabond", a journalist for the "Leader", in 1889.
