As a constant observer of the natural world, I am constantly observing and drawing trees. While I never intend to anthropomorphise objects in nature, I often see trees as having strong ‘characters’. As I was looking through my journal recently I noticed a page where I had drawn a group of trees standing in a line. This immediately gave me the idea for my lithograph Family Tree. This is a report prepared by the Director of the Royal Australian Survey Corps Brigadier L Fitzgerald OBE, FIS Aust for presentation at the Institution of Surveyors, Australia, 6th Survey Conference held in Adelaide in March 1962. This document mentions the beginning of mapping in 1907 in the Australian Intelligence Corps and how the Survey Corps was formed in 1915. The story continues until 1962.
