The event included a formal dinner attended by 250 family members and a large barbecue at Fortuna, the family's historic home. George Lansell, known as the "quartz king of Bendigo," was a leading goldmine owner who settled in Bendigo during the gold rush and established the family home at Fortuna in 1871. The Lansell family lived at Fortuna until 1935, and the property served as a central location for the reunion. George Lansell was recognized for his generosity and business success, notably providing financial support for Bendigo landmarks such as the Alexandra Fountain and Rosalind Park Cascades. He also donated the pendant that is part of the mayoral chain.Family Legacy. The tours were run by Malcolm and Hayden Beer, who are moving away from Bendigo. Hayden Beer managed the canteen during weekdays and conducted tours with devonshire teas on weekends for the past four and a half years. Malcolm Beer educated himself about the mansion and the Lansell family to lead the tours, gathering information from a Lansell family reunion. Declining public interest and low attendance over the last six months contributed to the decision. The couple's departure means the Defence Topographic Agency will no longer offer the tours. The last tour is scheduled for Sunday, November 12.The tour includes a two-hour guided visit and devonshire tea for $11.For bookings, contact Pat Graham at the provided phone number.Fortuna Article - "The end of an era - Fortuna tours to close" - The Bendigo Weekly Nov 10 2000 This item contains the following: 11217.28a Colour photo of Hayden Beer at Fortuna 11217.28c Colour photo of Hayden Beer at Fortuna 11217.28b Part of page - Article "The end of an era - Fortuna tours to close"non-fictionbendigo, fortuna, george lansell, malcolm beer, hayden beer -

The set, consisting of a two-by-two seater settee and armchair, was previously owned by the prominent Lansell family of Bendigo. The furniture was imported from England and likely featured in George W. Lansell's drawing room in the early 20th century. There is speculation that the Duke and Duchess of Wales may have used the set during their visit to Bendigo, when they stayed at the Lansell residence, Denderah (now Cooloch House). The set is described as being in remarkable condition, with luxurious fabric, tassels, and ornate piping. Such elaborate pieces would have been very expensive and rare in their time. The auction is scheduled for Friday at 6 pm at Valentines Antique Gallery. The gallery hopes the set will attract significant attention and possibly remain within the Bendigo community.Fortuna Article - "The end of an era - "Lansell Treasure for sale" - The Bendigo Advertiser Sept 27 2001 This item contains the following: 11217.29a Colour photo of Lorainne Isaacs of Valentines, Furniture and Auctions, enjoying the luxurious set of the lounge chairs and sofa. 11217.29b Part of page - Article "Lansell Treasure for sale"non-fictionbendigo, fortuna, george lansell, lorraine isaacs, vlentines auctions and furniture, dendarah house, cooloch house -
