Louisa Mann was appointed Matron of the Alfred Hospital Melbourne in June 1912 at the age of 45. Miss Mann had trained at the Melbourne Hospital, graduating in 1903. Miss Mann had been the second choice when Laura Pratt was appointed matron in March 1912. When Miss Pratt resigned due to ill health two months later, the position of matron was offered to Miss Mann.
