Clothing. Dark olive green fabric,(possibly cotton) with a sueded feel, bracelet length gloves. In between the fingers (on the side of the fingers)the gloves have panels of dark olive kid leather. At the top of the glove, on the outer side, the fabric is pleated, to give a rounded effect. A flat bow 6 cms from side to side, trims the curve. This type of head dress was very commonly worn by British Commonwealth Forces in the Sub Continent and other tropical areas. This particular example would have been a common sight in Northern Australia during the time frame, as well as Africa, Middle East and the Pacific. It is a light weight ventilated helmet offering good air circulation via the vent in the top of the crown, and shade to the back of the neck. As well as protection by the peaked front for the eyes reducing glare, preventing sun and heat stroke. It also created an image of gentlemanly dress and pride in appearance. It conformed to an ideal and was considered quite fashionable and a little dashing, often worn at a jaunty angle, creating a rakish air, far from today's simplistic view of pure functionality and at as low as possible cost. Whether worn with a tropical uniform with jacket and trousers, or open necked shirt and shorts, the wearer was easily identifiable as British or one of the Commonwealth countries.WW2 RAAF Wolsley cork helmet. Kastinger Boots Founded by Hermann Kastinger, the company was based in Austria from 1909 to 1981 . After several bankruptcies and changes of ownership, the company Lemipan , based in Pirmasens , Germany , is the current licensee. In 1932, Max Kastinger took over the business from his father. In addition to double-stitched shoes, glued models were also produced for the first time. The decision to use this design laid the foundation for the inexpensive mass production of winter shoes. In 1953 the first successes were also achieved outside of Austria. Sales of the boots took off internationally and were greatly adapted and improved as ski technology also evolved. In 2009, the Kastinger brand celebrated its 100th anniversary. The Soviet Union was one of the first countries to realize the unique potential of parachute forces. During World War II, Japanese pilot gauntlets were made from a combination of suede and leather. Specifically, the gloves featured high-quality deer hide suede for the finger section, while the upper portion was made of heavy cowhide leather, providing both warmth and protection. This pair of gauntlets are believed to be souvenired by an Australian soldier in New Guinea during WW2.
