... Lilydale. Victor had previously attempted to enlist on five occasions but had been medically rejected due to severe foot problems. He was eventually accepted and embarked with the 18th Reinforcements, 21st Battalion from Melbourne on HMAT Hororata (A20) on 23 November 1916. He later transferred to the 5th Battalion, but his foot problems reappeared, and he returned to Australia on 17 December 1918 and was medically discharged. He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
