My work is informed by a philosophical and spiritual engagement with Buddhist ideas, particularly in response to environmental concerns. In this work I wanted to challenge myself and explore the limits of clay material. Clay allowed me to express myself and free my mind. When I revisited Australia in 2010 form my residency, the natural environment here still was the best to me. Li-Feng LO (1967- ) Born Taiwan Ceramic artist Dr Li-Feng Lo completed a PhD at Monash University in 2008. She was a resident artist in the Federation University Arts Academy ceramics studio in 2010. Li-Feng worked with Southern Ice porcelain to create sculptural forms in response to environmental concerns. Her work is informed by a philosophical and spiritual engagement with Buddhist ideas. These works were exhibited in the exhibition 'AIRed' at the Post Office Gallery in 2011. This was a group exhibition showcasing the work of six artists who undertook residencies at the Arts Academy over a couple of years. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. Li Bai (701-762) is the greatest romantic poet in Tang Dynasty of China. He was given a post at the Hanlin Academy, which served to provide a source of scholarly expertise for the emperor.He was dismissed for an unknown indiscretion, and was sent into exile to the south-west by the Emperor. There after he wandered throughout China for the rest of his life. His creative inspiration emerged while drinking alcohol. This work is about the 'Buffalo Boy and the Seventh Fairy' from Chinese folklore. The Emperor of Heaven’s seventh daughter loved the buffalo boy. She left heaven and went down to the earth and married him. She became a weaver to make a living, while he tended buffalos. Their life was very happy and they had a daughter and a son. But the Emperor got angry. He sent heaven’s military to bring her back. He would allow them to meet at the other side of the Milky Way on the night of the seventh of July every year. Fortunately there were many birds who gathered to form a bridge. Every year they had a family reunion on the “bridge of birds’.

Dr Harry Jenkins owned Churchill Island from 1936 to 1963 and bequeathed it to Margaret Campbell on his death. Sister Campbell had been nurse to his disabled son and wife and she lived on the island from the time of World War Two. Cordial was bought at the local grocery shop or supermarket in the bigger towns/cities. Glass bottles were used for cordial concentrate before plastic became more popular and cheaper. These bottles came in many shapes and sizes.Small clear glass bottle with rectangular base, straight sides two thirds of the way up and then tapering gradually to the opening. It has a metal goldish coloured lid. The label on the back gives directions for making cordial.
