On Tuesday, the 8th of April 2003, Arthritis Victoria conducted an outreach visit to the town of St Arnaud, in the Wimmera region of central west Victoria. Around 40 people attended a talk on musculoskeletal health presented by naturopath and psychologist, Phillip Blackwood, and Arthritis Victoria's Community Speaker, Bill O'Connor. On the following morning, the Healthy Bones Bus (HBB) was set up in the main street of St Arnaud. This photo depicts a front view of the HHB parked in the main street of the town. It has been set up with its wide side doors open in order to display the information exhibits. A set of retractable steps have been pulled down so that visitors are able to enter the display area. Another photo of the Healthy Bones Bus in the main street of St Arnaud during this visit appears on page 17 of the Vol 16 Issue 2, Winter 2003 edition of the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria's quarterly magazine, Update.Colour photo of a large van with "Healthy Bones Bus" painted on the front. This photograph features a busy street market held outside the Emerald State Bank branch on Main Street (now Commonwealth Bank). As the photograph's caption explains, these stalls were held to raise money for certain charities around the local area, often through the organisation of the Emerald Infant Welfare Centre, or the William Angliss Hospital Auxiliary. On the 3rd and 4th of September 1954, a stall was held outside the Post Office (now Melbourne Pathology) aiming to raise £100 for the Emerald pre-school's new building. Over the Friday and Saturday, the stall successfully raised £103 for the new pre-school. In 1955, the facility separated from the Emerald Baby Health Centre and moved to the new building on Kings Road. This photograph demonstrates the willingness of the local community to raise money for a good cause and the nature of local charity markets in the local area.A black and white photograph of a busy street lined with parked cars. These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1991, are of the Victoria Square Shops under construction. During construction, all works stalled for an extended period, leaving the site in a deteriorated and unsightly condition. The prolonged halt caused considerable frustration among nearby residents and local businesses. In 1993 the development was finally completed, and most of the new shop units were taken up by tenants. The key occupant of the development was Australia Post, which relocated from its Main Road West premises on the western side of the railway line to a more central position within the expanding St Albans business district focused around Alfrieda Street and Main Road East.7383.01 - Victoria Square Shops St. Albans Construction Site 1991 Photographs (Advocate 74.2).JPG 7383.02 - Victoria Square Shops St. Albans Construction Site 1991 Photographs (Advocate 74.2).JPG 7383.03 - Victoria Square Shops St. Albans Construction Site 1991 Photographs (Advocate 74.2).JPG 7383.04 - Victoria Square Shops St. Albans Construction Site 1991 Photographs (Advocate 74.2).JPG 7383.05 - Victoria Square Shops St. Albans Construction Site 1991 Photographs (Advocate 74.2).JPGvictoria square, victoria crescent, elaine street, east esplanade, st. albans
