Historical information
These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1991, are of the Victoria Square Shops under construction in St. Albans.
During construction, all works stalled for an extended period, leaving the site in a deteriorated and unsightly condition. The prolonged halt caused considerable frustration among nearby residents and local businesses.
In 1993 the development was finally completed, and most of the new shop units were taken up by tenants. The key occupant was Australia Post, which relocated from its Main Road West premises on the western side of the railway line to a more central position within the expanding St Albans business district focused around Alfrieda Street and Main Road East.
