These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1990, provide views of Macedon Street, Keilor, looking east from Kennedy Street towards Arabin Street. The images document the appearance of Keilor's principal commercial street and capture the character of the town centre during a period of ongoing change and development.

The images capture various business including Pat O' Connell Real Estate, TAB, Bank of Melbourne, Frank Dowling Real Estate, Keilor's Interiors, Milk bar, New Dragon Chinese Restaurant, National Bank, Chemist, John Kontek Real Estate, Hot Bread Shop, Fish & Chips and Keilor Hotel.

In the 1840s–1860s, Keilor was a major stopping point for travellers heading to Mount Macedon, the central Victorian goldfields, and pastoral runs to the north and west.

The road running through Keilor was therefore known as the Mount Macedon Road and later shorten to Macedon Street, long before the Calder Highway system was formally gazetted in the early 20th century.

As the highway network developed, the route was progressively renamed and realigned, leaving the Keilor section with the heritage name Old Calder Highway.

These photographs are significant for documenting Macedon Street, Keilor's principal commercial street, during the early 1990s. They provide a valuable record of the appearance, layout and activity of the town centre at a time of ongoing change and development.
