Historical information
These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1988, feature a vacant parcel of land at the corner of Ballarat Road and Hampshire Road, Sunshine, which was being offered for sale following changes to the use of the site.
The land formed part of the former Massey Ferguson industrial complex, one of Sunshine's most significant manufacturing enterprises and a major employer in Melbourne’s western suburbs throughout much of the twentieth century.
The sale of the property reflects a period of economic and industrial transition, as large manufacturing sites were progressively redeveloped or repurposed in response to changing industry and commercial patterns.
Significance
These images document a notable moment in the transformation of Sunshine’s built environment, capturing land that was once associated with heavy industry as it entered a new phase of development.
