Historical information

These photograph, taken by The Advocate in 1991, features the St. Albans Melita Band at practice at Green Gully.

Significance

The St Albans Melita Band emerged from the strong Maltese community in St Albans, which grew rapidly from the 1950s – 1980s.

Maltese social clubs, churches, and cultural associations often formed brass bands as community anchors, and Melita was one of these local ensembles.

This band later merged with another Maltese band to form today’s MMG Concert Band of Victoria.
