These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1988, were published as part of the newspaper’s ongoing column profiling local traders across the district.

These photographs feature staff members of the St. Albans Home Furnishers located at 250 McIntyre Road, Sunshine North.

The shop was started by Joe Bartolo and his wife Doris in 1965. The site of their first shop was on the corner of Main Road East and Collins Street, St. Albans.

Significance

The Advocate’s feature on local traders was a modest yet well‑liked column that played a meaningful role in strengthening community identity.
