These photographs, taken by The Advocate Newspaper, document the 2000 St Albans Lunar Festival. Hosted by the St Albans Business Group Association and supported by the City of Brimbank, the festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors and features lion dances, traditional ceremonies, street food, rides, and live performances.

Significance

The St Albans Lunar Festival began in 1998, in Errington Reserve, St. Albans. It has now grown from a small community celebration into one of Melbourne’s largest and longest‑running Lunar New Year festivals, drawing tens of thousands of visitors each year. The festival is now hosted in Alfrieda Street, one of St. Albans main shopping streets.
