Historical information
These photographs were taken in 1991, when the St. Albans got its long-awaited bowling club on the Kings Park Reserve in Gillespie Road, Kings Park.
The St. Albans Bowling club had just been granted a planning permit for three synthetic greens, each with seven rinks, and a club room complex.
Attempts to get a bowling club in St. Albans where first made in 1974. The site was selected but the idea abandoned because of a lack of community interest.
The idea of a club was revived in July 1988, and a public meeting held to discuss the proposal. The following month a committee was formed to spearhead fundraising and the development of the club.
Significance
The St Albans Bowling Club (Victoria) is the oldest established bowls club in the St Albans area, located at Kings Park Reserve, off Magnolia Avenue.
