Historical information

These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1998, document the Brimbank Central Shopping Centre Christmas Parade held along Station Road and Neale Road, Deer Park.

Featured in the photographs are members of the Dancewest Dancing Club, the Sunshine City Band, and Cr Sam David, Mayor of the City of Sunshine.

The parade brought together local community organisations, performers and residents in a festive celebration, reflecting the role of shopping centres as important community gathering places during the Christmas season.

Significance

Christmas shopping centre parades are significant as community celebrations that bring together local businesses, community organisations and residents during the festive season.

They promote local shopping, encourage community participation and provide entertainment for families.

These events reflect the social and commercial life of their time and demonstrate the important role shopping centres played as community gathering places within suburban areas.
