Historical information
These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1991, document the condition of Burton Crescent Oval, Maribyrnong, following its occupation by a travelling circus. The images record extensive damage to the reserve, including harm to newly planted trees and other park infrastructure.
To gain access to the site, members of the circus troupe reportedly forced entry by pushing down pole fences and cutting gate chains. The circus had not obtained the required permit and had failed to pay the compulsory damage bond mandated by the City of Sunshine Council.
