Historical information
These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1999, document the demolition of the house at 5 Watt Street, Sunshine.
The property had recently been identified as historically significant, as it was once the home of H.V. McKay employee John Thomas Barcley, who moved from Mildura to Sunshine to work at the Harvester Factory.
Despite this classification, the owner obtained a demolition permit from a private building surveyor, who overlooked the house’s newly recognised heritage status.
