These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1991, feature St John's Anglican Church in Miles Street, Deer Park, during celebrations marking the church's centenary.
Constructed in 1891, St John's was the oldest wooden church in the present-day City of Brimbank and one of the district's earliest Anglican churches. Prior to the construction of the church, Anglican services in Deer Park were held in private homes and later in a recreation hall adjoining the Cricket Club Hotel (now the Deer Park Hotel), which was owned by local identity Alex Dickson.
Built largely through the efforts of local volunteers, the Miles Street church served as Deer Park's principal place of Christian worship for many decades and maintained strong connections with many of the district's earliest settler families. The building remained a prominent local landmark until it was destroyed by fire in 2016 and subsequently demolished.
