Historical information

These photographs, taken by The Advocate on 24 June 1999, document the official launch of the new suburb of Cairnlea.

The estate built on the former Albion Explosive Factory was formally opened by the Minister for Planning and Local Government, Robert Roy Maclellan, marking the beginning of one of the region’s most significant urban redevelopment projects.

The opening took place at the entrance to the estate Station Road, Deer Park opposite the Brimbank Central Shopping Centre.
