Historical information
These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1991, are of the Sunshine Primary School (Sunshine State School) 100th anniversary reunion.
Sunshine State School (No. 3113), established in 1891 at Braybrook Junction, Sunshine State School is one of the district’s earliest educational institutions.
The school operated from several temporary sites before relocating to Derby Road in 1892 and adopting the name Sunshine State School in 1907. Continuous population growth driven by local industry led to repeated expansions, including new classrooms in 1905, 1911 and 1919. In 1931 the school moved into a new brick building on Hampshire Road, constructed on the former Braybrook Junction Post Office site.
Throughout the twentieth century the school remained a central part of Sunshine’s civic life, reflecting the suburb’s industrial development and growing community.
Today the School still provides primary education to the children of Central Sunshine.
