Historical information

These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1991, formed part of the newspaper's regular coverage of local issues affecting roads, parks, nature strips and other public spaces. Many of the locations featured in these reports were brought to the newspaper's attention by local residents concerned about conditions within their neighbourhoods.

The images feature the original Astron service station that once occupied the site. Since then, the property has been redeveloped and now accommodates a United Petroleum service station and a Pie Face outlet, illustrating the ongoing commercial change and redevelopment occurring within the district.

Significance

The images are also significant as a record of the original Astron service station, capturing a commercial site that has since been redeveloped. They illustrate the changing built environment of the district and provide a visual record of a business that no longer exists in its original form, contributing to an understanding of local commercial development and urban change.
