The net belonged to Florence Emily Grylls. She enlisted in the AAMC reinforcements as Staff Nurse on 20.6.17 age 29 years. Embarked on 30.6.17 and disembarked Bombay on 30.7.17. She nursed at 3 different hospitals. Hospital with Influenza serious on 17.10.18. Embarked for Australia 28.2.19. Discharged from the service 17.1.20. Letters in the records show that she worked at Caulfield Repatriation Hospital after the war. The back pack and webbing was the infantry soldiers 'house on feet'; whilst on patrol, he carried all that was required for days/weeks at a time with some re-supplies during the course of time sometimes; it was common practice to slide into the backpack whilst prone on the ground and then slowly turn and rise to standing as the most convenient of loading up.Despite the effort required to patrol long distances with a heavy load, many soldiers had a close affinity with the backpack and webbing as it provided him with comefort and necessities during an Operation.Standard issue of infantry back pack and webbing kit for carrying of day-to-day needs whist on patrol or other duties. There is a bent piece of cane screwed onto one end,doubling the height of the box,to support a mosquito net. There is a waterproof (1221) underlay - no mattress - and a folded (1201) quilt (cotton) inside. The frame is sturdy steel supporting the box - cot. Chipped black pain covering it. 2 metal handles are fastened to top side edges to help lift cot out of frame.
