Tram 39 was built in 1914 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. In 1951 it was sold to the State Electricity Commission, Ballarat, and renumbered 39. When the Ballarat Tramways closed in 1971, it was sold to Lismore Lions Club and displayed in a recreational reserve. Ballarat Tramway Museum purchased the tram in 1976 and converted it into a museum display and souvenir centre. This was used until the new Museum building was opened in 2022. These photos show the process of loading the tram onto a truck in Lismore and bringing it back to Ballarat. The date of this was 9 May 1976. All photographs were taken by the donor, Campbell Duncan. This gift-boxed grooming set contains men's toiletry and grooming items in a lined and fitted case. The set was made by Fauldings from 193o to 1940 and sold by chemists and department stores throughout Australia. An advertisement promotes a variety of sets as 'Toilet Treasures by Faulding' and pictures several sets called 'caskets', and gives the different combinations a set number. Another advertisement promotes the sets as 'Gifts of Rare Discernment'. The items on offer include After-shave Lotion, a bottle of Brilliantine for hair, and an Old English Lavender shaving stick in a glass container. Some sets have Complexion Soap, a good quality sterilised Shaving Brush and Talcum Powder. A grooming set similar to the one in our collection was priced at 11 shillings in 1936 and would cost approximately AU $90 in 2022. This boxed grooming set is an example of men's toiletries sold from the 1920s to the 1940s in Australia. The supplier, Faulding, brand products have been available since 1845 when Francis Hardy Faulding opened a pharmacy in Adelaide, South Australia. The company has built a reputation for being a trustworthy supplier of pharmacy and healthcare needs for 175 years.Male grooming set; black leather-covered case with green velvet lining and strap with a metal button closure. The lid and front of the base fold out. The case is fitted with straps and a compartment to secure items inside. The set contains men's toiletries and grooming items; a nail file with ebonised handle, an oval bristle brush with shaped ebonised hand grip, and a twelve-sided textured glass bottle with a gold metal lid and a shave stick with silver foil around the base, wrapped in waxed paper. There is also a ten-sided plain glass bottle with silver metal lid, an oval metal soap container with hinged lid and an unused round cake of soap. A light brown leather stropping strap with a metal 'D' ring one end and a punched hole in the other end is fitted onto the folded down side of the case. The shaving stick is Old English Lavender by Faulding and the soap is Christy's. Inscriptions on the shaving stick wrapper, bottle base, label and lid. Methodist Church, Centre Road. The first church building on the site was built of timber in 1850. In 1865, the wooden church building was sold and a new brick church was built, this building was expanded over the years to accomodate an ever increasing congregation. In 1928 the parish opened yet another new brick church - which still stands today (2022). This is a photograph of Mr & Mrs Peter Nixon about to board Kaye Lynn's covered jinker which is pulled by a horse to travel to open the Orbost Historical Society's Museum in Nicholson Street, Orbost. The original location of the Museum 1967 was in the building which is now (2022) used by the Cricket Club & Senior Citizens. The Library was also located there. The tram was built by Duncan and Fraser of Adelaide in 1912 for the Melbourne Electric Supply Co (MESCo) for its Geelong operation that opened in 1912 and closed in 1956. The body was subsequently sold to Phil Shoppee, a farmer at Murradoc on the Bellarine Peninsula, purchased by the donor in 1991, who rebuilt the tram back to its MESCo configuration. The tram is fitted with a four-wheel truck from Brussels. To make the tram operable, air and electrical work was carried out by Bendigo Tramways. The tram was donated to the Museum in 2021, and the tram entered service on 6/2/2022. This tram is the only one known to exist of the seven (and four trailers) that opened the Geelong system in 1912.
