Ron Penna was born in Bendigo in 1935. He worked at the Bendigo Advertiser newspaper from 1952 as a printer and foreman from 1968. He retired in 1995.A single sheet four-page supplement in the Saturday May 30 1987 edition of the Bendigo Advertiser which was the last in a special series held to mark Newspaper Week. The front page of tabloid size newspaper headline is Censorship, taxes: the press leads the fight. The article describes the fight for freedom of the press through the 18th, 19th and 20th centauries.
