For a period of approximately 18 months (November 1989-May 1991) a group of staff members (26 female and 12 male) trialled a variety of uniforms, at the end of the trial they were asked to complete a questionaire. Questionaires were also distrubted to 923 "observers" (nursing staff not wearin the trial uniforms) for their opinions. This followed on from a uniform trial and survey held in 1991. Choice of non-uniform should take into consideration occupational health and safety, and infection control. Guidence was also provided re clothing choices. It was also noted that Identification badges should be worn above the waist, so staff could be easily distiguished.
