This postcard is a photograph of a section of a large tapestry , 1.8m x 1.9m, which hangs in the foyer of the South West Health Care. This tapestry was funded by the Geoff and Helen Handbury Foundation. It was woven at the Australian Tapestry Workshop, South Melbourne. The postcard “Concerning the Wading Birds of Warrnambool Wetlands” brings to a wider audience, the work of John Wolesley as well as the craftsmanship of the weavers in presenting his original watercolor in a different medium. The tapestry itself was commissioned by Warrnambool Base Hospital.Background is in muted shades of blue and browns with larger birds in foreground and smaller ones in the background. Photograph shows three modern low-floor trams manufactured by three different international companies positioned on the newly installed triple track section at Melbourne's Docklands. The first and third trams (manufactured by Alstom and Siemens respectively) had entered service in Melbourne in the previous year or so. The middle tram, a 7 module Eurotram manufactured by Bombardier, had been transported to Melbourne to promote its products. While in Melbourne it transported passengers to the 2003 Australian Open and Grand Prix. The promotional exercise paid dividends because Bombardier won the future contract to manufacture the E class trams in Dandenong. It was then bought out by Altsom which subsequently won the contract to manufacture the G class trams in Dandenong. Yields information about international tram manufacturers. This photograph is of Robert O'Hara Burke (6 May 1821 – c. 28 June 1861) who was an Irish soldier and police officer who achieved fame as an Australian explorer. He was the leader of the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition, which was the first expedition to cross Australia from south to north, finding a route across the continent from the settled areas of Victoria to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Prior to leading this expedition, Burke was the superintendent of Police in Beechworth from 1858-1860. The Robert O’Hara Burke Memorial Museum was named in honour of Robert O’Hara Burke after his death at Coopers Creek in 1861 during expedition.
