Over the Friday and Saturday, the stall successfully raised £103 for the new pre-school. ...This photograph features a busy street market held outside the Emerald State Bank branch on Main Street (now Commonwealth Bank). As the photograph's caption explains, these stalls were held to raise money for certain charities around the local area, often through the organisation of the Emerald Infant Welfare Centre, or the William Angliss Hospital Auxiliary. On the 3rd and 4th of September 1954, a stall was held outside the Post Office (now Melbourne Pathology) aiming to raise £100 for the Emerald pre-school's new building. Over the Friday and Saturday, the stall successfully raised £103 for the new pre-school.
