Warrnambool South Primary School was opened in 1877 and the first teacher was Mrs Eliza Clarke. Many of the trades of the early parents were occupations such as tanners, saddlers, wharf labourers and fishermen. The school celebrated its centenary in 1977 and was decommissioned around the 1990’s.The community of South Warrnambool was close knit and the school was a focal point of that community. The McDonald name has had a strong association with that community for over 100 years. The game of cricket was and remains an important part of sporting life. This rounders bat was used by the students at Bogong Primary School.Historical: Bogong Primary School was opened for the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme workers. Provenance: Bogong Primary School sport.Wooden bat. The face of the bat is flat and the other side becomes thicker (is tapered) towards the centre in a longitudinal direction. The handle is cylindrical.'Champion' 3 quarters of the way up the bat towards the handle on the flat side of the bat. On the reverse side same position, Made in / Pakistan. During the 1950's a childhood game called 'knucklebones' was played by primary school girls. At least 2 people were required to play sitting opposite each other and going through the 'moves' (throwing the bones up from the back of your hand, picking up a bone from the floor and catching the others), using 5 knucklebones, as listed on written instruction that came with a coloured plastic version mass produced and with instructions.During the 1950's games were played that required natural substances but increasingly extending to commercial equivalents.
