The flag is of the National Liberation Front or Viet Cong. It was adopted in 1960 and was a variation of the North Vietnamese flag. In 1975, it became the flag of the provisional government of the Republic of South Vietnam. It seems that the VC seamstress confused the year for 1966, as a decision to locate the new Australian base was not made until early that year. This item was donated by Pte Helmut Grzegozewski(39121) who was with the Royal Australian Infantry Corps and served in Vietnam with 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment from December 1967 to November 1968.A black and gold frame of a Viet Cong flag.
