South Australian textile artist Trevor Smith was taught to crochet by his mother Jean in the 1960s. After training in sculpture, he returned to crochet after participating in a Regional Arts Victoria project in 2009. His quirky and inventive crochet sculptures stem from his interest in costume, characters, fashion, culture and history and push the boundaries of crochet in a move from functional items to creative artworks. Trevor has exhibited in various museums and galleries including the Art Gallery of Ballarat. The Country Women’s Association of Australia advances the rights and equity of women, families and communities in Australia through advocacy and empowerment, especially for those living in regional, rural and remote Australia. The Country Women’s Association of Victoria was founded in 1928 and the Warrnambool Branch was founded in 1931. The branch has given assistance through the years to the Red Cross, Baby Health Centres, the Warrnambool Hospital, bush fire relief, mental health and aged care and it has regular displays of country arts and crafts. In 1961 the C.W.A. Centre and Rest Rooms were opened in Kepler Street, Warrnambool. In 2016 the group celebrated the 85th anniversary of its founding.This booklet is of interest to researchers and others wanting a brief outline of the history of the Warrnambool Branch of the Country Women’s Association. This is a small booklet of 12 pages. The front cover is white with black printing and it has a yellow back cover. The booklet has black plastic spiral binding. The Cooinda Bowls Championship was a notable regional event held across various clubs in Melbourne’s west, particularly involving Sunshine Bowling Club. The event was part of the Cooinda Festival, which was a multicultural community celebration held in Sunshine, Victoria, during the 1970s, with strong ties to local Aboriginal and migrant communities. The name Cooinda, an Aboriginal word meaning “happy place” or “meeting place” reflects the festival’s inclusive and celebratory spirit. The Sunshine Bowling club was founded around 1910, and is closely tied to the development of Sunshine as a company town under H.V. McKay, the industrialist behind the Sunshine Harvester Works. The club was located in the Sunshine Gardens, Andersons Road, Sunshine. In 2007, the club folded. Later the club rooms were demolished, and the former bowling rink was converted into a lawn area, and which is now part of the H.V. McKay Memorial Gardens. A wooden shield with inscription plaques attached. The shield comes apart into two sections, top & base. The "My Heart is Breaking" national touring exhibition was the only exhibition to be included as part of the Australian Reconciliation Convention in Melbourne between 26th - 28th May 1997. The exhibition toured to several State and Territory capitals and to regional Victoria. It was a joint venture between the Public Record Office Victoria and the Koorie Heritage Trust, in association with Australian Archives and the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust. Point to Sky is one of Akio Makigawa’s final works, the commission was completed posthumously. It is the only public artwork by the celebrated Australian-Japanese sculptor of this scale located in regional Victoria. You will see two stainless steel forms, a smaller more rectangle form and the towering geometric form, with seed pod shapes at the peak. These forms represent the house, the artist is expressing that home is a shelter and also a place for gathering. The house form grows into a tower to symbolise the achievements of mankind and the action taken to protect the rights of the community during the Eureka Stockade. The top seed pod is gold, referencing Ballarat as the centre of the gold rush in Victoria, as well as representing the sun as the source of life. The paving of the forecourt was designed in bluestone, typical of the work of Makigawa. Stainless steel panelling and shaping on armature. Rodney SCHERER (24/02/1951 - ) Born Campbelltown, NSW Rodney Scherer studied at the National Art School, East Sydney Technical College (1968 -1972); the Canberra School of Art (1973-75) Dip, Art Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education (1978); and a Grad, Dip, Art (Painting) at Gippsland Institute of Advanced Educaton (1985). He curated a number of significant exhibitions for the Gippsland region of Victoria, including the first national travelling exhibition of regional artist "Contemporary Gippsland Artists 1990-92". Rodney Scherer is a painter, print maker, sculptor, Curator, retired Public Gallery Director, and fine art consultant. He was the founding chair of the Art Resource Collective, arcYinnar. He was an Artist in Residence at the Gippsland Trades and Labour Council, Yallourn Power Station in 1991, and site manager of the Fifth Sculpture Triennial at the 1992 Melbourne International Arts Festival. In 2021 he curated "The Happy Wanderer.
